Institutional Coordination is needed to prevent accidents in the city: Engineer Md. Abdus Sabur

Member of Jatiya Sangsad, President of IEB and Secretary of Science and Technology Affairs of Bangladesh Awami League Engineer Md. Abdus Sabur said that there were several incidents of fire and explosion in Bailey Road, Banani, Moghbazar, Gazipur and Old Dhaka. Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) Act was enacted by the current government to prevent these accidents and ensure citizen services. The government has not only made laws but is determined to implement those. Coordination among civil service organizations is essential to prevent fire and explosion accidents.

On Monday, 8th of July, 20224, the Member of Parliament, IEB President and Bangladesh Awami League's Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Md. Abdus Sabur expressed his thoughts about prevention of accidents.

IEB Honorary General Secretary Engineer S. M. Manjurul Haque Manzoor delivered his welcome speech. The event was chaired by Engineer ANM Tariq Abdullah, the Assistant Professor of BUET. Engineer Md. Yasir Arafat Khan conducted the event whthe Editor of Chemical Engineering department Md. Obaidullah (Nayan) presented his paper.

Engineer S. M. Manjurul Haque Manju said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always called for following the building codes. The civil society of the country should come forward on her call.

The former president of IEB Engineer Md. Nurul Huda; Professor Dr. Engineer Md. Shamim Z Basuniya; IEB Vice President Engineer Md. Nuruzzaman; Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Md. Shamim Akhtar; President of Bangladesh Institute of Planners Dr. Adil Mohammad Khan; the controlling engineer of the import and export department, Masudul Mannan; the Chairman of Bayet, engineer Md. Saiful Amin participated in the discussion.

The speakers said that the owners, users and developers can get immediate benefits by violating the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) Act. According to BNBC, minimum space should be kept for fire separation in residential areas and around buildings. Co-ordination between civil service agencies such as RAJUK, City Corporation, Fire Service and Directorate of Explosives Control, WASA, Gas Distribution Department, BSTI and Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Public Works is essential. One stop service needs to be introduced in the city. What is needed most is awareness among the citizens.
